"Too often, I believe, the meaning of a work of art is lost as a result of a thoughtless or unsuitable placement of the work for display. The installation of my own work, for example, as well as that of others, is contemporary with its creation, and the space surrounding the work is crucial to it. Frequently as much thought has gone into the placement of a piece as into the piece itself."

Tours

Tours of Judd Foundation properties in Texas and New York offer visitors an unparalleled engagement with Donald Judd’s art and vision. These formerly private living and working spaces, created by Judd over more than two decades, provide the quintessential experience of Judd’s philosophies on the thoughtful installation of art, as well as an introduction to his unique consideration of space, light, color, texture and form in the placement of objects. These spaces are a physical embodiment of Judd ‘s legacy in art, architecture and design that cannot be found elsewhere.

Tours are approximately 90 minutes and are limited to 10 people.

Studio Tours

Tours of Donald Juddʼs other studio spaces in downtown Marfa are offered Friday and Saturday at 2:00 PM. This tour includes Juddʼs Architecture Studio, Art Studio and the Cobb and Whyte Houses.

These spaces contain furniture by Donald Judd as well as his early paintings from the 1960s. There is also an extensive collection of modernist and period furniture as well as works by other prominent 20th century artists and designers.
